White River Fishing Report 05/26/11-05/31/11

Many of the White River Resorts have shut down guide services during this high water period. This is due to damage to the resort or dock they use. Big Phil’s Guide Service is open for guide trips year round even in the high water conditions. We guarantee you catch fish. All game and fish regulations as well as limits are always observed. A half day or a full day guide trip with a shore lunch as a gift makes a wonderful memory. This is a special time for potential trophy fish. Catch and release is preferred in all areas, however all kept fish are cleaned to request, whole, skinned, or filleted by their guide. The bite has really been on and with the rising waters periodically during the day, comes the opportunity to try different tactics like rouges, spoons, or countdowns. People have been catching Browns, Brooks, Cutthroat, and Rainbows all week. The lake level on 05/30/11 was 692.41. However this has not hurt the fishing on the White River at all. Be aware of generation levels and lake levels. They had 6 units running this morning and 17 spillgates equaling 18 units of flow. Water can be treacherous. Don’t go with an inexperienced person on the river. The number to call for generation report is 870-431-5311. Normal pool is 654.00. Low to medium generation levels all week have proven to be great conditions for big browns. A lot of real nice fish are being caught, so a guide is the best way to go. They know how to navigate in all water conditions and they know the holes where the fish are stacked. If you have questions call 870-445-4444. Always have personal flotation devices on board and in hazardous conditions they should be worn. Now that we are in range of normal pool we could see some variance in the generation levels. If your not familiar with the river get a licensed/insured guide or guide service for your fishing needs.

Had several trips this week a lot of browns and here are some sizable rainbows that were caught as well. This nice Brown was caught on 5/27/11 We had a great day.

With the higher generation levels work your stick baits of choice Countdowns, Smithwicks, or something of that type in Shad or trout patterns. Nightcrawlers and frozen shad as have the sculpin, spoons, and river slicks. Don’t be bashful give us a call have a memorable experience with Big Phil’s. Great fish are being caught right now. We had several people this week with over 10lb fish. There is no better time to go on a guide trip than right now. The weather is great and the fish are biting. If you catch a trophy fish we as guides prefer to keep the fish in the river so others can enjoy the experience of catching larger fish. A replica mount lasts longer and is no more expensive than a regular mount and it keeps trophy fish in the river for others to enjoy. Please promote catch and release.
Trophy Browns are being caught at night when the generators are shut down. Come see me for details on this method, J-9 jointed Rapalas, and topwater Rogues and Zara Pups have been doing very good on catching these. Please be aware of your trash. Don’t let it float down river. If you do see some please if possible pick it up. Thanks
